Cable network Hallmark Channel will launch its new Hallmark Movie Channel HD with Son of the Dragon, a two-night movie event starring Emmy® nominee and martial arts icon David Carradine (Kung Fu, Kill Bill: Vol. 2, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues).

This two-night, four-hour epic will be broadcast Wednesday, April 2, 2008 and Thursday, April 3, 2008. A re-imagining of Thief of Baghdad, this film was shot entirely in China. The plot reportedly revolves around a charismatic young thief known as Devil Boy (portrayed by John Reardon), who was abandoned at birth and rescued from the docks of Shanghai by Bird (Carradine), a wise former warrior.

The two men set their sights on swindling the royal court of its jewels. Their heist plans include winning the hand of the governor’s daughter, Princess Li Wei (portrayed by Desiree Siahaan), whose father is welcoming potential suitors to court her. Posing as the Prince of the Seven Seas and his loyal lieutenant, Devil Boy and Bird enter a world of intrigue and adventure.

Actor Josh Hartnett will be entering a new world of martial arts in the Snoot Entertainment independent-film production of Bunraku, according to Leslie Simmons and Borys Kit at The Hollywood Reporter.

Bunraku is reportedly a stranger-coming-to-town story fashioned in the tradition of spaghetti Westerns, samurai movies and gangster flicks.

Hartnett is reportedly set to play the Drifter, a man set on revenge.
