At age 15, Terry Wilson took his first martial arts class and worked as a disc jockey on his first radio show on the same day in 1962.  Four decades and five Emmys later, he continues to train and teach martial arts and has a long list of credits as producer/director/writer and on-air host. To date, Wilson is the only person to win an Emmy for producing a special on the martial arts.

He was the first to direct full-contact karate for national and syndicated television for the World Karate Association. In addition to his work in television, Wilson also writes for numerous mainstream magazines. He was voted Best Feature Writer by the San Diego Press Club, and he also has received similar honors from the Society of Professional Journalists.

Wilson began his martial arts studies in 1963 under Okinawn shorin-ryu karate master Shoshin Nagamine. While continuing to study shorin-ryu karate, Wilson began cross-training in judo, then jujutsu.  Wilson’s instructors include Gene LeBell (judo), Ed Parker (kenpo), Bong Soo Han (hapkido), Clyde
Zimmerman (jujutsu), Bob Chaney (muay Thai) and Fredrick Peterson (jujutsu).

In 1991, he won a silver medal at the AAU International Jujitsu Championships. In August 2004, Wilson received a Life Achievement Award for his work in the media and was inducted into the Masters Hall of Fame. In October of 2004, he was named California state director for the American Jiu-Jitsu Karate Association International.
